Caught Off Guard is and has always been proud to be a member of the Calgary Beer Core. They have been our biggest supporters over the years, giving us some of our greatest opportunities like the show this past summer with Face to Face. Last week at the CBC Awards ceremony, to the entire band's surprise, they honoured us with the award for this years Best Punk Band. Winning the award means a great deal to each member of this band on personal level. To be recognized by the musical community we love so much has truly put the wind back in our sails. We can't name everyone but we want thank Mark, Froid, Jim, Corrinna and all the decorating committee, all the presenters, the Distillery staff and the event sponsors. Congratulations to all this years winners and nominees, here's to a few!
Caught Off Guard is now trying out new guitarists for the band. If you or anyone you know of is interested in trying out you can contact Fitzy at na.fitzsimmons@gmail.com or via text at 403 560 2598. While we are in the process of recruiting a new member, Caught Off Guard will be heading back into the studio at the end of November. In what we are tentatively calling our ?Caught Off Guard Collection? we will be recording new songs, covers, re-inventing some old ones and doing some collaborations over the course of the next year. You can expect new tracks available for download and streaming on the website ever couple of months starting roughly in December.
The rest of the summer is going to be a busy one! Caught Off Guard has several shows lined up to keep the music going all through out July and August. To start things off we will be doing a Stampede show at Verns with Keith Morison band and the Rigormorticians July 14th. We will also be playing the Calgary Independent Connection website launch party with our good friends in Deluge, the lovely Victoria's Birthday Celebration and the Beer Core Awards Fund Raiser show at the Distillery just to name a few.
On June 29th we will be opening up for California punk rockers Face to Face and we are STOKED! The show is being put on by the amazing people over at the Calgary Beer Core and will be one of the biggest and best in recent memory. Joining us for the show are local legends BDFM & Downway. Tickets can be purchased at http://facetoface.zoobis.com/, more information can be found at facetofacemusic.com , youtube.com/user/officialfacetoface , facebook.com/events/312770872131125/
We have been working with Undie Music out BC for the last couple months to distribute our music throughout Canada. They have been getting us played on west coast radio campuses and distributed our music online. Anyone interested can check them out at undiemusic.com, also to any other bands they are currently expanding their roster.
As a crowd of onlookers gazed at the green with anticipation, eyes fixated on the hole, mouths gapping, hands moist from excitement, underdog Enzo ?Snipe Show? Moreland sank a hole in one to dethrone the reigning mini golf champion Rafi ?Snipe Show? Munoz on the 18th green. Truly a historical moment in sports history and for the young lads of Caught Off Guard. So.... Other than playing the short and narrow fairways, we have been having a blast on the road! The rest of the shows in Ontario went great and guys and gals in Quebec really brought the energy we love seeing on the dance floor. We?ve just hit our furthest point east of the tour, partying it up in Charlottetown. Between watching a group of South Koreans dance so hard to our tunes they broke their glasses and indulging in copious amounts of lobster and beer, the Maritimes have so been good to us. Now we have our sights set on Halifax!
So as we just crept past the 3 week mark we?ve reached the halfway point of the tour. Despite some unexpected vehicle repairs, things have so far been a great success. We just finished making our way to the very southern tip of Ontario, playing a wicked show in Windsor last night and meeting some very interesting people and doing a quick interview. Now after a good breakfast, a day at the Laundromat and a couple pints we?re ready to continue on our journey eastward. The latest tour Vlog is up as of today, expect another one to pop up in a week or so. Cheers!
So far tour has been crazy, we have only been gone 5 days and already it feels like 2 weeks. In this short time span we have already had some incredible highs, and disheartening lows. Reconnected with old friends and made a lot of new ones. To date we?ve played four shows and they have been some of the best we have seen in a while. The fans have been great and amazingly supportive. Today we did a radio interview and on air performance at UMFM 101.5 in Winnipeg which went smoothly. Everyone?s performance was crisp, tight and sounded professional. We have also already encountered a big unexpected tour expense, which reared its ugly head on the second day. 50km outside of Lloydminster we all got quite a shock as we watched the left tire of our recently purchased trailer go bouncing pasted us on the highway. But as always, we kept our heads high and did not get discouraged. After throwing all our gear in the back of the van we still made it to Saskatoon with plenty of time to spare before our show at Walkers. Then had everything up and running again the next day in time to make our sound check in Calgary. All and all it has been exciting couple of days and reminder of why we love the road so much.
As April has begun Caught Off Guard's Another Round tour is fast approaching. For 6 weeks the boys will be hitting the road and performing across Canada, from Calgary all the way to Charlottetown and back. They will be making plenty of stops along the way, so be sure to stayed tuned on facebook, twitter and of course the home page for all the show listing, updates and Vlog postings soon to follow.
For those of you who don't already know, your first chance to get a glimpse at the new Caught Off Guard lineup will be this weekend, Feb 18th at Verns. We've all been putting in long hours and are ready to test out our new rhythm guitarist, new material and a new stage setup. In particular, Dan and Alistair, have put forth a commendable effort getting everything ready for this show and tour. All that being said we'd really love the get some fan feedback about the changes and additions, as nothing is official yet. If you can't make it Feb. 18th, you'll have one more chance to catch Caught Off Guard before we embark on our biggest tour yet. Calgary punk legends, The Oh Shit!, are releasing the much anticipated studio album ?Get The Fuck Off Our Bus!? at Desperados March 2nd. We will be opening up the event along side World Class White Trash & Acid Jac. This will be our last Calgary show for months to come. Tickets for March 2nd are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, you can email booking@caughtoffguardmusic.com or text (403) 560 2598 to purchase tickets.
While our spring tour is fast approaching we are doing all we can to improve our stage performance and live sound. To much disappointment the addition of a permanent keyboardist was not in the cards for Caught Off Guard, however we are now working with a new rhythm guitarist that has brought a whole new level of energy and sound quality to the band. It undecided what the final line-up will be but regardless expect to see new faces, new gear and a new show in the next few months. And for those of you that make it out to this February you might get a sneak peak at things to come.
For those of you that haven't already heard our long time guitarist Adam Ostick has moved on to other endeavours. The level of commitment the band requires can at time be daunting and as Adam is moving forward with other aspects of his life he can no longer make this commitment. As disappointed as we all were by his departure we are taking this opportunity to rebuild and remodel the band. Over the past several weeks we have been training and rehearsing with a new guitarist a few of you may have had the opportunity to get a sneak peak at on November 25th and 26th. If you haven't already, your next chance to see him will be this New Years Eve at Verns. On top of that we are now in the process of finding a 5th member for Caught Off Guard. If everything continues as planned we will be adding a permanent keyboard/horn player. We are not looking to drastically change the band we are just trying to make best of a bad situation and take this potential opportunity to improve our live performance. And so far we are all very excited about what's to come in the next few months. Make sure to stay tuned for the latest updates and the re-release date of the newly refined Caught Off Guard.
At the CD release Caught Off Guard was graciously provided with a photographer for the event and the first couple photos have gone up. Make sure to check them out and watch for the entire album going up on our facebook page soon as well.
